Wow, I think I'm a Z-Level Gaming Celebrity!

Mike Mitchell - 2/6/2011

I got a cool call from my youngest brother, Matt, tonight (he's 25). He was at the Michael's craft store in Tyler, Texas and was shopping for some Styrofoam sheets. They didn't have what he wanted, so he started talking to one of the sales associates and she asked him what he was looking for, and what kind of craft he was working on.

He explained that he was looking for some thick Styrofoam blocks or sheets so he could make some tabletop gaming terrain for an underground mine system.

He thought he was going to have to explain it in more detail, but her face lit up and she said that she and her husband played miniatures games. They started chatting and he asked her what games they played, and she replied, "Mostly Warhammer, but we also play Gutshot."

Matt said his jaw fell open and he said, "No kidding? My brother is one of the creators of Gutshot!"

"Your brother is Mike Mitchell?" she asked. "Cool!"

Needless to say, I was quite surprised. He didn't get her name, but as far as I can tell, it's not anyone I know personally, other than probably having sent a few e-mails back and forth.

This is the fourth or fifth time he's bumped into people who play Gutshot. Needless to say, whenever it happens I'm always amazed that our little game has gotten out there as much as it has.
